Honolulu, Hawaii is the county seat of the for Oahu as well as the capital of the state. There is much to do in the city proper, but many actually drive "away from town" to the country beaches (North Shore being about 2 hours drive, depending on traffic). When in "town", you have different things to do depending on WHERE you are and at WHAT TIME OF YEAR you are here.
Eating is ALWAYS a favorite past time... and the different areas of Honolulu give up some wonderfully diverse choices... Downtown Honolulu/Chinatown From upscale eating to dim sum Cantonese style, you have a wide variety of eating to enjoy. Visit around the Lunar New year and you will enjoy the Chinese celebration of dancing lions, fireworks, and open shops through the night. Night spots are returning to the downtown area.
Indigo's (http://www.indigo-hawaii.com/) is a great restaurant with music and dancing and their infamous martini nights! For a more pub atmosphere, visit Murphy's Bar & Grill (http://gomurphys.com). A typical pub which hosts awesome block parties for St. Patrick's Day and New Year's Eve.
The pub also does fund raising for the UH Football team. A must stop for anyone in Downtown is the Aloha Tower Market Place (http://www.alohatower.com) - home to such eating places like Don Ho's Bar & Grill, Chai's Restaurant and the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant. Periodic displays of fireworks and "dock parties" for holidays are announced months in advance for locals and travelers alike.
Between Downtown and Waikiki is what we call "Da Ala Moana Area" Starting with the Ward centers (http://www.victoriaward.com/), you can enjoy shopping, entertainment and eating all in one day! Dave & Buster's with great food and fun for all ages sits right next to the Ward Theaters where you can catch the latest films. Kincaid's Fish, Chop & Steak House, The Old Spaghetti Factory and Big City Diner are in the mall area for a wide variety of tastes.
A little bit up Ward Ave. Toward the mountains (mauka) you will find California Beach Rock n' Sushi (no site - but check the ward center's link above for info). AWESOME FOOD!
That's all I can say.. you just have to eat there to know. Heading toward Waikiki you will hit the largest mall in Hawaii - Ala Moana Center.(http://www.alamoanacenter.com/) You will have 32 restaurants & casual dining eateries to choose from - not to mention a HUGE food court (26 businesses in there) and eateries scattered throughout the mall's wings (30 total). Did I mention we like to eat in Hawaii?
Ala Moana also sports one night club, the Pearl, which I still have to check out myself, but I am told is rather nice. And the best dancing club (imho) is Rumours, situated in the lobbyof the Ala Moana Hotel is great for the Saturday night "Big Chill" - playing music from the 70's through today. WARNING: Ala Moana is growing.
Wear comfortable shoes! I will not get into Waikiki - there is just too much therefor this response. I will note that Moose McGillicuddy's is my all time fave hang (http://www.mooserestaurantgroup.com/Waikiki-Hawaii.html).
Eat dinner in the pub downstairs, then go upstairs for dancing and hanging out. Waikiki has gone through several "face lifts" through the years and many of the places I used to go to are either gone or moved (Wave Waikiki, Irish Rose, Masquerade, Limelight, Jazz Cellar, etc). There is eating on just about every corner here though, so for your food fanatics, be ready to spend!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
