The higher the carat, the bigger the amount of pure gold is in the metal. 24ct is pure gold and is rarely used in jewelry as it is too soft, and the lower in ct number you go the higher the percentage of other metal alloys is that will have been mixed in with the pure gold. Most jewelry on the the market is from 9ct ct 18 ct and the higher the carat the more expensive the gold will be.
