I am thinking about having laser hair removal on my upper lip. I tired everything like shaving, waxing and they still show on my face. I am fair skin, but my hair is black.
However, I don't know much about them. Do they really remove hair permanantely or will they grow back. Also, are there any side effects?

It SHOULD work... I'm having it done now. I was told back in 2004 that it would only take 6-7 treatments spread out over 10-12 week periods. Well, here it is 2007 and I am still going.
They tell me that I am the perfect skin type. I have light skin and dark hair. I only started doing my lip a little while ago.So far that part is working.
After the first few appointments, you can tell that the hair is growing back slower and is softer. I am having my legs and underarms done also. I am still waiting to have no hair.
I'm pretty upset about it actually. I should be done by now. They tell me that it works and they have clients that it has worked on, but I haven't actually seen or talked with anyone that it has worked for.
If all you are worried about is your lip, then you should be fine. That should work just fine for you (your skin type). I really don't worry about my lip anymore.
It was a free thing at the time, so I just did it. I have really light hair on my lip. Every now and then I would get some dark hair, but it hasn't been dark at all since the treatments started.
There are no side effects that I know of. The only thing to be careful of is to make sure the laser doesn't burn you. The place I go to got a new laser and it can go really high.
I got burned on my legs once. I doubt you'll get burned on your lip because that is such a quick treatment. You cannot have treatments done if you are pregnant because it can cause damage to the baby and cause you to miscarry.
So definitely don't do this if you are pregnant or about to become pregnant. However, if you do become pregnant in between treatments, you should be able to come back after you give birth and start your treatments all over from the beginning. Sources: experience .

washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=a... For me personally the treatment worked great. I am disabled with neurological damage to my hands and legs. Neurological damage that also affected my ability to know when I had to go to the bathroom and so I must wear diapers.
Having all the hair removed from my diaper area helped eliminate lingering odor from the previous diaper change but smooth skin makes clean up faster and easier. I hope this helps, Jamie Sources: Most of this I know from my own personal research however a quick web search revealed that research .
I had it to remove facial hair. It required a series of treatments, but was far better than any other method I tried. What grew back was much finer and much, much less dense than before.
Fair skin and dark hair is ideal for laser treatment. I might need maintenance treatments every six months at most.
