Well, I read "The time of my life" By Patrick Swayze & his wife. It was quite good. Especially if you liked him.

I did like him, grandma - I'll look for it. MusicLoverMe 9 months ago .

Keith Richards "Life" about his career with the Rolling Stones and drug problems and finally getting straight. More interesting than I thought it would be.

OH - I love the cover of that one LOL! MusicLoverMe 9 months ago .

Here's one for you: Bristol Palin is coming out with a memoir! (36 pages, mostly about being on "Dancing With The Stars" and having an illegitimate kid. ) Or, you can wait until it hits the bargain bins for $1.99 about 6 months after its released.

I just finished "Unbroken" by Laura llenbrand a truely amazing and inspiring story of Louis Zamperini, a world-class long distance runner who shook the hand of Adolph tler at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Zamperini became an U.S. Army aviator whose plane crashed in mid-Pacific. He and his pilot survived 47 days on a tiny life raft in the Pacific, only to be rescued and have to endure more than two years in Japanese POW camps.

I'm also reading "The Autobiography of Mark Twain". However it may take me a while before I finish this one as it is one big book. LOL!.

Right now I'm really enjoying "Princesses: The Six Daughters of George III" by Flora Fraser. I, as well love biographies, memoirs, and historically-acurate stories. The author pieces together the circumstances of the princesses lives from birth to death through their many letters (so you get to hear their own words) and through the correspondences of many of those within the court. It has a bibliography and is indexed so might be a bit weighty for some - but reads quickly and easily.

I'm half way through and have been unable to put it down! .

Interesting saintgertrude. Right now, I'm reading "The Secret Gift" by Ted Gup. It's about the Great Depression.

The author found a suitcase of letters in his grandfather's attic containing letters written on scraps of paper, etc. After he secretly posted a $5 gift would be given to anyone who would write to him about their situation. Actual letters and fascinating insight into the hardships of people of that time. MusicLoverMe 9 months ago .

Try "The Book of Air and Shadows" by Michael Gruber. It's a novel about a search for an undiscovered Shakespeare play. Another good one by Gruber is "The Good Son".

I'll look him up, Ed. Thanks! MusicLoverMe 9 months ago .

I just finished Cutting for Stone, it was pretty good. Parts of it dragged but it was a good read.

Thanks, LouLou. I read that one and I agree - it did drag quite a bit - not my cup of tea. MusicLoverMe 9 months ago .

Here are two suggestions. The first is non-fiction, "Mountains Beyond Mountains" by Tracy Kidder. It's about Dr. Paul Farmer, who started a health clinic in Haiti.

Absolutely fabulous story! The other is fiction, "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It's a series of letters between the different characters and it is one of the most touching books I have read in a long time.

Thanks, hermione22. I've got Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society on order right now! MusicLoverMe 8 months ago .

Try Man and Boy by Tony Parsonsit is a really great book.... it is about a man who cheats on his wife (this happens basically at the start... so it isn't a spoiler ;P)it is basically about him going through all the guilt and stuff and having to raise his five year old son on his own, even though his wife wants to take him away.... it is a really good read I recommend it greatly :D .

I've just realised... this book is fiction, whereas you wanted a biography type thing lol sorry.... even so, this book works kinda like that and I wouldn't give it a specific genre or anything lol it is just about this mans life and how hard it is and how he gets over it etc. Lol .

Thanks, RyRy - I'll look it up. MusicLoverMe 8 months ago .

The Story of American Railroads" by Stewart H. Holbrook. Or "The Army of the Potomac" by Bruce Catton .

Thanks, kritiper. MusicLoverMe 9 months ago .

I just re-read Shindler's List and Sophie's Choice because I was running out of books. "The Help" is great, but still not being sold in paperback. "The Space Between Us" by Thrity Umrigar was wonderful and showed so clearly the difference between the caste.

She also wrote "First Darling of the Morning, Selected Memories of an Indian Childhood. " We seem to be on the same page as far as reading goes. Looking back on books that I didn't read growing up, I loved "Ironweed", which became a movie.

I have become, to my dismay, a little less enamored with Jody Picault, Joyce Carol Oates, and Anna Quindlin. So disappointed, but waiting for the next. Also have whole collection of Anne Tyler and my husband said she is writing a new one, but was so disappointed with the last one.

I also love Maeve Binchey, but have read them all. Give me some if you have any. I am starting to remember that we both enjoyed "A Thousand Splendid Suns".

Pam .

I love Anne Tyler and agree that her last one wasn't so good. I will look for her new one - also any new one by Hosseini! MusicLoverMe 9 months ago .

Description was very interesting. I had seen that book but the title threw me off - I thought it was something frivolous. I loved Howard's End so I will definitely look into this one.

This one was really good too, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Heartbreaking_Wo... also likeden.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unbearable_Lig... also like many John Irvings books, Cider House Rules and A Prayer For Owen Meany being my faves. Org/wiki/A_Heartbreaking_Work_of_Staggering_Genius.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
