Be careful in the kitchen. We were going to put in a laminate floor two years ago to blend in with the laminate we put in the connected family room. We were told that you should not put laminate in a kitchen or bathroom where there is a lot of spills and water.

If we wanted to do wood, we should do hardwood. That being said, long boards in a light oak would be pretty, We ended up putting ceramic tile in the kitchen.

When I painted a bathroom, I found this paint that was blue, but with such a tinge of light blue and I love it. I wanted an ocean look, but against anything white , you can see the subtle blue and it might look nice against your countertops. Know what you mean about the cabinets, We need new ones, too.
