Of course! Often! And I started early with it.
When I started in first grade, my Mom bought me a present--a copy of EB White's Charlotte's Web. The book was pretty new at the time--this was back in the mid-60's. Wle I could already "read," this book took me from being able to read and being a READER.
She was reading it aloud to me, a chapter a night, and I COULDN"T STAND not knowing what would happen next. SO I picked it up and followed her around, sounding out the words and sentences myself, and asking her what words meant (must have both delighted her and driven her crazy). And Charlotte dies at the end, and I STILL tear up!
I heard an NPR segment on Charlotte on the way home the other day. It took EB White 16 takes to record the segment of the book when Charlotte dies for the audio tape he made of his book--because every time, HE'd cry, too. In second grade, I read EB W I couldn't bear it that Stuart would leave his family to go seek out his bird friend in that great wide world.
I still find the book heartwrenching. The last (new read) book I'cried over? EXCELLENT book!
Mike Perry--Population 485: Meeting your Neighbors One Siren at a TIme. Mike Perry (his Truck: A Love Story is equally, if not surpassingly excellent) took me from rolling on the floor laughter to tears in a heartbeat. FABULOUS reading, both!

Once I remember crying at times when I read "Angela's Ashes," one of my favorite books of all time. That book touched me so much, I literally remember being depressed for a while after I finished it because it was over. I also laughed out loud at other times while reading it.

The Tears Flowed Freely. I don’t cry at the drop of a hat, but there have been quite a few books that made me cry. The tears flowed freely when I read the books Dave Pelzer wrote about his abusive childhood.
S story is so heart wrenching when he tells of all the abuse he suffered at the hands of his own Mother. The books I’m referring to are "A Child Called It," "The Lost Boy," and "A Man Named Dave. " These books not only tell of the abuses he suffered, but they also tell of his strength to survive a life of not belonging.
These books are well worth reading if you haven’t already...but be prepared to cry. Yes, a few times.. while reading A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith (the part where Francie and her brother buy little Christmas gifts for their parents and win a Christmas Tree catching contest on Christmas Eve because the family had no money to buy one) . While reading An American Tragedy by Theodore Drieser (the part in the beginning where young Clyde Griffiths is standing on a corner in Chicago with his mother and father, who are street preachers, and hundreds of people passing the little group stare at them in pity) .
Book A long time ago I read a book by Paul Monette called "Borrowed Time" I knew about how this book would end but it still made me sad and I did cry.

Just use what you have. Most everyone has Word.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
