Have you ever reported someone to social services for financial exploiting an elderly person?

In our case, the victim may not want to report the abuser to the police. The victim is cash poor but has some real estate - will social services still help? The victim would be considered a vulnerable adult.

The abuser is an adult child with issues of his/her own. Abuser has been taking large amounts of cash from ATMS. Victim once had abuser arrested for forgery - abuser is on probation.

Lastly, abuser had been living with victim. Abuser was evicted recently for not getting a job and previous ATM thefts. Abuser is living in a hotel with $ stolen instead of going to DSS to get housing and job assistance.(ATM cards are to be cancelled today - we hope!) Try contacting Len Tillem for advice I haven't that level of experience, thank goodness, but have had a "near-miss" which in the end required a threatening letter from a lawyer. Also involving a child exploiting an elderly parent. And I know just how scary and threatening that can be.In our case we also had the fact that the siblings SSNs were all applied for on the same day (back in the day the numbers were not randomized) and so they all knew (or could guess) each others SSNs.... For a situation with someone compromised with some mental (cognitive) problems, the best way to go is to petition a court to declare them incompetent to manage their own affairs and have a guardian appointed.

The problem is often that the abused senior is not so incompetent that a judge would rule they should have their rights taken away. So con-men (and sponging relatives) don't need to do illegal things - the victim is giving them the money "willingly". With close relatives there is also the emotional overhang of being a parent - who cares for their children "right or wrong" which the abuser exploits.

As you know, even competent 20 year-olds get "taken" by con-men, so you have to have a severe issue of competence before the courts will act - just being "stupid" doesn't count. But I do know of a free resource to get some facts based on real knowledge - which is particularly relevant if you live in the Western US. We have a lawyer out here called Len Tillem who specializes in elder law (including stopping abuse).

He has a radio show on KGO, but also answers email questions for free posted through his website. He is a good guy. One thing we used to think about during this was that the abuser was so out of control (drugs) that one day they would do something else illegal and so get "into the system" - which would be our chance to remove the victim from his clutches.

But, in fact, she had a serious medical issue instead and was hospitalized, went into a nursing home for two years and then died without ever going home, so she was relased from her bondage a different way. Hope that helps - I know this type of situation really SUCKS. Please be careful it doesn't have an impact on YOUR close relationships with others (or your health) due to the stress of having so little control and maybe being unable to help as you feel you should.

Not yet since Philippines is not that strict in terms of legality. It's considered family matter here. Well, I have witnessed so many injustices like that here in our country.

Especially being done by adult children to their old parents (senile) and grandparents but we just murmur about it. No one can blame us too because that is none of our business anymore. But there are certain institutions like local TV programs that expose it and get the abusers arrested especially if neighbors will tell the investigators and they will be under surveillance.

And the helpless individuals are being helped by the investigators to seek safe shelter and care. Sources: OWN OPINION.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
