A couple of weeks ago, a woman in Texas had to remove a nipple ring (with pliers! ) after it set off airport security alarms. I'm curious -- has anything like this ever happened to any of you?
Maybe not the pliers part, but has anybody ever had their private piercings "outed" by a metal detector at an airport or museum or courthouse or whatever? Asked by WrightSister 45 months ago Similar questions: set metal detector body piercings Lifestyle > Beauty.

No At one time I had seven piercings in various places of my body. I have never set off any metal detectors at airports or at security points in museums (like in Washington DC). I even discussed this matter once with a TSA official and he said he'd never had piercings set off a detector..
Not piercings.. wires in my right hand. Years ago, playing ball I tok a freak fall,in the process,my right index finger got twisted to the point the tendons tore off the knuckle bone. Surgery was.
Such that I had wire drilled thru the knuckle & re-attaching the tendon. I was a tad over agressive with my range of motion exercises while casted in rehab. The wire which originally were supposed to come out after 3 months actually broke off.Dr. said it'd be harmless to leave them there, but in the years to follow,i've set off metal detectors with my hand.

Nope. I have eight piercings (wow, that sounds like a lot! ) and I've never had an experience like that.
One is in my lip and the rest are in my ears. All the jewelry is pretty small though, so the size of the jewelry might have something to do with it? I don't know.
That would be really embarrassing though! .
I have no body piercings, nor do I want any but... I set off a metal detector with the hardware that the doctor put into my ankle when I badly fractured it - 10 screws, 2 plates and a wire. You should have seen them scanning up and down the both sides of my ankle with my stockings off as I kept saying: just look at the scars - you can see it was broken on both sides... They finally let me go. I've flown several times since then and never had a problem with the ankle.
I have, however, heard the pings as the detector went along my back where my bra hooks were - however, I guess they knew what they were for there were no questions... Doesn't life get interesting sometimes (also frustrating)!
