The answer is that it is NOT ok. And the Cherokee never wore those bonnets, anyway, so those people claiming Cherokee ancestry as an excuse (a common myth) are wrong anyway. Eagle feathers are like military medals, they must be awarded and given, not just appropriated.
And when they are worn, they are worn for sacred purposes, not as a costume or fashion statement. Any other use is disrespectful, offensive, and inappropriate. http://nativeappropriations.com/2010/04/... http://nativeappropriations.com/2011/10/...
I'm unsure why... But yes, that's definitely wrong and those were lame excuses. We need more voices about this! You should have explained further what they were doing and shut them down.
As a side note, I hear g*psy is a slur (?) and white face isn't racist.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
