Hinduism..Mahabharata...Why did Yamunaturaivan (Krishna) do penance to Lord Shiva?

You already have so many answers to your question of Lord Shiva. My addition would be only a few drops in the ocean. Well Lord Shiva is one of the three Gods i.e.

The Creator that is lord Brahma, who created this world and all living thing. 2nd the Preserver that is lord Vishnu who preserves and look after every creation created by Lord Brahma. 3rd Lord Shiva the Destroyer,He destroyers all un wanted element in this universe or ugliness and punish them by death.

Now it is up to you whom you would like to call the supreme - the creator or preserver or a destroyer. All are same. Yes people do fear death or fear punishment and call him supreme.

Lord Shiva worshiped Lord Rama and Vishnu. It was Lord Vishnu who had saved Shiva from Bhasmasur. He can not go against nature, so he can not do any thing on his whims or against the nature.

As other lords were associated with every thing good and 'asurs' are also creation of Brahma, so he was the only person to go with them and their deeds. Three-fourths of the people describe themselves as adherents of Hinduism, the oldest continuous faith in the world. However, today Hinduism has spread to all parts of the world, taken there by Indian migrants, perhaps in no other case is the association between a faith and a land is as close as it is with Hinduism.

Religion, during Harappa & Mohenjo-Daro period is not much known, but certainly, it was polytheistic, based on the art of that time. Some people think Hindu gods were worship even before advent of Aryans.

Lord shiva IS THE supreme god in Hinduism. "asuras worshipped lord shiva "=YES."Sidha-Sura-Asura Vandhita Lingam" but I think shiva didn't worship any other god as he is the supreme among all. Correct me if im wrong.

---Lord Siva is the FORM of Formless BRAHMAN---Smasaanam,Asura etc are all "Material Things"(Prakruthi)---Lord sri. SIVA is Purusha(BRAHMAN) who is NOT affected by this Smasaanam(just a land/ground) Asura etc.Lord Ziva(Siva) is present everywhere where there is agony,pain etc and where there is happiness,jubiliation,auspiciousness(Man... Life/Animation in anew-born child(SIVAM== BHAVAM). That is the REAL nature of GOD.

If GOD is NOT present where there is agony,pain,injuries--to console HIS devotees,then HE is NOT GOD at all. Lord SIVA's another name is "Aasu Tosha"--Just say "SIVA" --He will come IMMEDIATELY---sri. Vishnu,sri.

Brahma etc --you have to recite their names for 10,00o,1,000 years respectively as in the case of sarva sri,Gajaraj,Dhuruva,Prahlaadha etc.Sridhara Ayyaaval,a STAUNCH devotee of LORD SIVA make fun of Lord SIVA for this. Lord SIVA ALONE will take even "Scoldings","Insults" as PRAISE. In VEDHAM Lord Siva is described only as a pencil of Powerful Ray extending in Space for several Trillion Light-years above and below the Earth.
