Hoof thrush treatment?

If you look at the ingredients in most (all) commercial thrush medications, they all have their problems, too much to discuss here, so just understand that they are all caustic and while some do kill the bad bacteria, they also kill healthy tissue and this sets your horse up for chronic thrush, recurrent episodes NEVER, NEVER use bleach, iodine, betadine, hydrogen peroxide. Also, Thrush Buster, No Thrush, Koppertox all are harmful to the tissue in the hoof and each have their own special problematic ingredients. I would never use any of this caustic junk on my horse's feet.

Get some mastitis medication for a DRY COW. This addresses both the bacterial and fungal components of thrush and there is is not harmful elements in this medication. It is inexpensive and works great.

You should see granulation within two days. This medication is an oil suspension so even in wetter conditions, it will stay in the foot longer. Besides the excellent healing this medication provides, the primary thing is that it CAUSES NO HARM to your horse.

Gently clean the feet, insert the applicator tip between the heel bulbs (if open) and apply medication daily until the feet are healed. I always keep a couple of boxes on hand. Each box has 12 syringes, cost is about $15.00, very affordable, but most importantly, it works and it is safe for your horse.

The first and foremost concern is to always DO NO HARM. Good luck with your horse.

Dry footing is important. Clean the stall daily or even twice a day. It's springtime, so muddy pastures happen, just try to make sure he isn't being a Gate-Hog in a muddy spot all day.

If he is turned out on mud most of the day, bring him in and make sure he stands somewhere dry for a good half hour or more every day so his feet can dry out. Thrush is usually a generic term for bacterial infections in the frog of the foot. Pick out his feet at least once a day and apply one of the following: Thrushbuster Koppertox Betadine Absorbine Just about any solution that will kill bacteria will work.

A solution of 1/4 bleach 3/4 water works. So does hydrogen peroxide (though it will be drying to the rest of the foot and make a lot of fizzing noise, as well as eating at the top layer of material).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
