Michael, from the patent date and the lug forge I believe you have the following. It should be a Champion Iver Johnson, it would have been made by the Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle works in Fitchburg Mass, with the serial number I couldn't find an exact date but it should have been manufactured around 1920 to 1925. If it needs parts there are a few available from places like Numrich.
If it has been taken care of then it shouldn't be hard to do a restoration. But if it's been a barn or truck gun then you will spend more than it's worth on a restoration. It may be one that you can have chemical blued and the rest preserved to make it a wall hanger.
Only way to know is to have a good gunsmith check it for you.
Go to google and enter the serial number and you will get some information on the gun!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
