A common way of locating food on a plate is through the clock method. The round plate represents the face of a clock. A sighted person can then identify where each item is on the plate by referring to the food item and the time location where it is situated.
For example," the peas are at twelve o'clock and the chicken is at six o'clock". Persons with some vision can use high contrast to visually identify food items on their plate. For example, a white plate on a black place mat may contain food items that are highly contrasted as well, such as green vegetables, meat and mashed potatoes.
