Imagine if BP and/or Transocean knew that they weren't protected by the government. No liability caps on damages. Gee, you think they just might make the effort to make sure that something like this couldn't happen?
They say they'll pay "any valid claim", but guess who gets to make that decision? It sure ain't the courts, it's BP. I want deregulation.
I want arbitrary liability caps repealed. If you're almost assured of bankruptcy if an accident happens, you make sure it doesn't.
Ah, but perhaps we should add what you chose not to include. Like the government preventing us from drilling in areas that it would be safer to drill. The platform that caught fire and caused the spill was a mile below the surface and 6 miles down.
Had the government not taken a postering against the oil industry, we wouldn't have had to drill so far down or be so far out. There are already many regulations in regards to safety and construction. This platform was supposedly one of the best platforms available.
And while Obama is trying to demonize the oil industry, BP and point figures at the government, NO ONE has determined what the actual cause of the initial explosions and fire. Governmental interference created this situation by restricting drillers from gaining access to the easier oil.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
