How can depression help me get in touch with my feelings and values?

In Greek mythology, it was believed that after death people had to drink from the river Lethe in Hades in order to forget their life on earth. To many people, depression may feel like a mini death as they lose interest in their daily activities and begin thinking that their life may be meaningless. Similarly, depression may help you to disconnect from a previous lifestyle or situation so that you can create a new life.

It may be that there is wisdom in finding your old life to be pointless. Jack, for example, was married at a young age to a beautiful woman but found himself divorced a few years later. He lost interest in all his old social ties, while he struggled with depression.

It seemed that all his previous friends were connected with his ex-wife, who traveled in impressive social circles. He began to experience their status as meaningless as he turned down invitations and withdrew from everyone connected to his previous life. While he struggled with his feelings of emptiness, he realized that he had never enjoyed these social connections.

Instead, he was much more interested in some of his new friends, who were more bohemian and less impressed with social status and accomplishments. He came to understand that both his choice of marriage partner and their circle of friends were out of alignment for him in view of his true interests and values, which steered him toward friends and partners who were creative and authentic and shared his offbeat view of life. Because of his depression, he fully disconnected from his previous life, allowing him to find his deepest values and interests and pursue a life in line with those.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
