How can I find out if my neighbor was convicted of a crime? (see details below)?

(see details below) I mentioned to the neighbor across the street that I hadn't seen the oldest boy next door from me in quite a while. I knew he went to college and then never saw him home for breaks. He seemed shocked taht I "didn't know.

" He said the son was arrested and convicted of sexually molesting his neice. It wasn't in the papers. He said he heard it from someone else.

Would a conviction be a matter of public record? How can I find out this information? I am concerned because 1.

I have a young daughter and 2. I'll never be able to sell my house if I am living next to a convicted sex offender. I just want to know if it is true so that I can take steps to safeguard my family.

Directly asking the next door neighbor is not an option. The son is still in prision (alledegly) and so wouldn't have to register under Megan's Law until he is released. I live in NJ, if that helps any as to the law.

You should be able to get access I am not sure if you know the offenders name, but if so you should try: https://www6.state.nj. Us/DOC_Inmate/inmatefinder? I=I You also should be able to access court records in your state, but I am not sure of that..

Generally, you can run an online criminal background check. In Colorado, you need the person's name and birthdate (and $8). The only problem with that is it won't tell you if you got the name wrong. It will just tell you that no, there are no records for that name, or yes, there are some.

New Jersey has a similar system. Here is the info for New Jersey. According to that page, you can request a "Name Check" with a SBI 212B Form, and writing in "a subject's name, date of birth, social security number, and other descriptive information" It costs $10.

You can say you are considering hiring this person. The only thing is that it probably won't include juvenile offenses, so if your neighbor's boy is less than 18, that conviction wouldn't show up. Also, I don't know how quickly the databases are updated, so it might be a while before the conviction appears (or it might appear immediately.

) There is also a NJ Sex Offender Internet Registry, but as you say, he won't appear in it until he is released. But if you think it is possible he has already been released, it might be worth checking. And I wouldn't worry too much quite yet.

For one, if the boy is in jail, he isn't residing next to you, so it wouldn't affect your real estate values. And even if he were, when people are considering buying a house, I don't think they usually check the criminal conviction databases or the sex offender registry for their potential neighbor's names. Further, not all sex offenders are the same.

If the guy's niece was 19 years old and physically mature (as they are so often these days), that might not mean your 2-year old daughter is at risk. Being sexually attracted to a physically mature but underage girl is not unusual, and his actually acting on it without her consent, or even with her consent if she is underage, is the screwed up thing. He might be violent or just boorish, or he might have been drunk.

But being sexually attracted to a real child like yours would be a real aberration, and probably the sign of a quite disturbed individual. And that is quite rare.So I wouldn't panic quite yet. Good luck!

.

Its all available on the web go to NJ law enforcement website. You can search for anyone and se if they were ever convicted of a crime, if they're in prison, their release date, and their crime. Sex offenders have to register and their address is also on that website..

Call the police department this is your right under the freedom of information act furthermore, check state.nj.us/njsp/info/reg_sexoffend.html .

There are paid services to get this information Here is an example. It appears all you need is the phone number of your neighbor. dmv.org/criminal-records.php .

Ok let's say you have been convicted of a horrible crime, and after 10+years in prison they find out oops you, Details...

Is violent crime always more damaging than white collar crime.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
