You can open up another terminal window and type: ps.

You can use the Activity Monitor to check things out pretty thoroughly. To get the right privileges to see everything going on you can do.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
