If you have arthritis, here are some simple adaptive devices you can use at mealtime. Use a spoon as a knife. If you have weakness in your hands, try using a spoon as a knife.
The bowl of the spoon fits in the palm of your hand and the long smooth handle acts as your knife blade. Use a pour spout to make pouring oil easier. Add a pour spout, like bartenders use, to oil bottles -- no more caps to twist off and on -- just lift and pour.
The pour-spout is a standard bartender’s tool that you will find at kitchen stores; some close to preserve freshness between pours. Run hot water over a plastic lid to make it more pliable and easier to put on a container. Attach small casters or wheels to the underside of a cutting board.
Use the adapted cutting board as a trivet or to move heavy pots or dishes from one place to another. As an alternative, purchase a rolling plant pot “trivet” at garden shops; these are used to move heavy planters, but will work with heavy bowls and pots too.
