Leisure has two aspects: rest and play. Isn't it sad that in our society we teach everyone to work, but we don't teach anyone how to play? Play has been the basis of leisure time throughout all societies.
Traditional holy days and festivals provided all socioeconomic and social classes of people the opportunity to play and celebrate together. We often think of leisure as a time to "escape" from life, but true leisure pulls us deeper into life by allowing time for dreaming and contemplation, which are at the root of all creative acts. Leisure is essential to the health and happiness of the human race.
Work becomes more meaningful and has more purpose when we take regular breaks to play and rest.
