How can you associate or connect your answer to someone elses answer or comment like we used to be able to on the DB?

You can address someone by name. I actually see this as a feature, not a bug. I think it will drive answers to the home page, and discussions to the forums.

I think this is going to make for a more pleasant site. Especially for new members, who I think used to come in and feel like they'd walked in on a private gathering. Much more open and friendly (welcoming).

I think we'll see more of that on the forums than over here. But that's just my guess.

I think you are correct. That is where I plan to spend my time. NormanL 16 months ago .

I guess you can always address to someone other than the asker (or including) by putting something like this in your answer/comment:@NormanL, .......They do that in Fluther.

I don't think that will work. NormanL 16 months ago .

You cannot do so through the system. There were probably reasons for this. Seehttp://askville.amazon.com/amused-chose-fix/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=73071545&startIndex=3&filter=QAndA&profileUserId=3748367#response_id_73075364Nothing stops us from carefully referring back to a previous answer.

But, we will need a shared, succinct, consistent notation or we will all go nuts. Do? RequestId=73071545&startIndex=3&filter=QAndA&profileUserId=3748367#response_id_73075364.

Response to Goldie's answer...Kudos to you for all of your upbeat, morale-building answers. AV should pay you as a change management consultant... :)Seriously, when one implements a significant change like this, AV managers should be crawling all over the site right now to assist with the transition, even if it means getting up 3 hours earlier for a week or two...I suspect they are all sleeping off the champagne from last night... :) .

Response to NormanL's reply to Goldie! I suspect that people who enjoy the never-ending back & forth will need to position themselves as the Asker of Qs. This will allow 2-way back & forth.

Given that many DBs that went over 100 entries were typically between 2 parties, this may actually work. :)But, as I indicated, I think the decline in interactivity will affect answer quality. Some of us respected the Q&A process & conducted reasonably thorough online (& offline) research.

The 1,000-char limit will curtail some of that. It feels we are more of a quick mobile device Q&A service now than a more thorough research service with a DB for chat on the side. The sense of Community is a 2-edged sword.

AV should try to preserve the good aspects of it in pursuing its business objectives. Sorry for the rambling.

Responding to Gary's comment...Idea. For Qs which precipitate long, active discussions--e.g. , "why do Republicans suck?" or "why do Democrats suck? "--the Asker could simply create a link to a discussion on this Q in the forum.

It's not perfect. But, it's a workaround.

Or learn how to navigate on the forum. NormanL 16 months ago .

Going over to the Forums was never a natural act for me. I used to use MyDiscussions to manage the DB. We can still do that.

But, we need to figure out how to shift discussions on Qs to a linked Forum DB, as in the example above.

Goldie is pickin gup on this quickly. I will follow her lead. Perhaps the forms are a place to discuss these isssues.

You really can't, unless you start your answer with "Replying to xxxxx's answer", or quoting it at the beginning of yours, if that is even possible.

The healthy DB could get started like that. " "if I connect my ipod to someone elses computer, will I lose all of my songs, data, info, etc from my ipod?" "Do you think it would be a good idea to be notified when someone replies to your comment on a DB? " "No way to reply to a answer/DB/whatever any longer?

" "Why does changing a topic have to count as a comment? I go in to a DB to see an answer and it's a topic change. Annoying" "how to connect remotely to someone elses computer" "Askville - would it be possible to link or somehow connect a PM generated from a DB *TO* the DB?

" "Do you sometimes read the db before you answer a question and then take the correct answer from the db to post your" "Amputation. To all who asked see my db at my question. Please answer me.

I go in to a DB to see an answer and it's a topic change. Annoying.

How to connect remotely to someone elses computer.

Do you sometimes read the db before you answer a question and then take the correct answer from the db to post your.

Amputation. To all who asked see my db at my question. Please answer me.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
