How can you tell when Tofu isn't good too eat anymore? I have some that I didn't realize had expired 7 days ago today?

I have some that I didn't realize had expired 7 days ago today. The expiration is on the package. It has been in the refrigerator and unopened the whole time.

Would you go ahead and eat it? If so, Can you give me a quick recipe to make for tonight's dinner? It is garlic/pepper flavored tofu steak.

Thanks in advance for helping me out. My idea would be to maybe fry the 'steak's and make a tomato paste type sauce to serve over the slices...not sure if I should 'bread' the slices or not and with what.... If it smells OK, it's probably OK enough. When it's very far gone, it's easy to tell: it smells bad and it may have slimy mold growing on it. Week-old tofu is getting up there.

If it smells OK (well, smells like tofu) then it probably is OK. I wouldn't feed it to the "immunologically challenged" (young, old, sick) but for a healthy adult it's probably not going to kill you. They're pretty conservative with the expiration dates.

As for a recipe... well, you've got a million options. If you had time I'd freeze the tofu to squeeze out some of the extra water. Failing that, I'd slice it horizontally into steaks (you can probably get 4 of them if you're good with a knife).

Then put them between paper towels and press them under some heavy cans. The world is full of garlic-pepper-tofu steak recipes, but since merely googling them isn't a very good answer, let's make something up from scratch. (We're not going to bread them, because it's unnecessary and it takes more time.

) 1 block tofu, cut into steaks and pressed, as above 2 tsp olive oil 2 cloves garlic, crushed or minced 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes 1 tsp olive oil 2 cloves garlic 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes 1 cup tomato sauce 1 tbsp soy sauce Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and garlic, and cook until garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add tofu slices.

Cook on one side until golden-brown, about 3 minutes. Turn and cook until the other side is golden. Remove tofu and set aside, covered.

Add additional oil, garlic, and red pepper to the pan. Cook 30 seconds, and add tomato sauce and soy sauce. Cook until reduced a bit and thickened.

Return steaks to pan; simmer 1 minute until heated through. Serves 4. A variant: for the sauce, add 1 onion, sliced, and 1 green pepper, cut into strips.

Saute them in the garlic/red peper oil over medium heat before adding tomato sauce and soy sauce.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
