How come Windows XP (or Windows Vista) only sees 2 virtual CPUs?

While VMware Fusion can assign up to 4 virtual CPUs to a virtual machine on a quad-core or octo-core Mac Pro, Windows XP and Windows Vista are limited to two processor sockets only and virtual CPUs are socket-based. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
