How did Rhode Island Get It Name?

Although Rhode Island was discovered by Italian navigator Giovanni da Verrazano, it was dutch explorer Ariaen Block that named it Roodt Eylandt, which means Red Island. This evolved into the English form we know today.

There are two theories one which says a 1524 explorer stated that the island resembled the Isle of Rhodes in the Mediterranean. It is also said that in 1614 another explorer gave it the name Roode Eyland after the reddish rock edges.

Also noted is the origin of the name, which the site claims is the Greek Island of Rhodes. A promising start, but the answer was a bit too cryptic and ambiguous for our liking. Luckily the page offered several links to online encyclopedias and almanacs.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
