How did this new fashion of boys wearing their pants around their ankles and their underwear showing come into effect?

It started in prison..... This trend was acutally started in the prison system as a way to show disrespect for authority. Although it isn't tolerated in prison the inmates still try to get away with it. The teens have caught on to this and it basically means the same thing, it is a way of their showing disrespect to authority and society.

If notice thier body language you will be able to see what I am talking about here. The way they carry themselves and show to others that they don't care what anyone says or thinks of them because they want to show others that they will do as the please. As I stated earlier that it started in prison... If you look at some of the rap stars the ones that did serve time in prison, they still dress that way.

I too am ashamed that this style is tolerated in today's society... but, unfortunately, it's not a crime for teens to advertise their underware and thug type attitude.

This too shall pass We saw it in San Francisco in the late 90’s till about 2002. If you are just now seeing it, it will get worse before it gets better. We called this style ’sags and bags’.

At its worst it got into layering, 2-3 pair of different patterned boxers with jeans and sweat pant layers on top. The crotch ends up at knee level and they walk like penguins. Picture this-a six foot 140 lb penguin trying to navigate the stairs.

I would find myself walking down the hall saying,"Pull up your drawers, boy" Some other recent styles: the average size kid in the XXXL pants & t-shirt, 2005 all the boys wearing pastel pink & black (we never saw so many boys wearing pink) and the last 2 years those oversize black or navy 3/4 length jackets are now white with pastel, gold or silver prints (I call them ’girly’ jackets). And the hair! One style I call the baby duck because that's what it looked like-a soft cowlick on the top of their heads.

Before that we had an anime look with a normal haircut except for two chin length pieces next to the face, which were dyed a range of reddish hues from mahogany to bright orange. There is also the chrysanthemum-that’s exactly what their hair looks like. And remember that normal haircut with the rat-tail braid-I had to restrain myself every time I had a pair of scissors in my hand.

A serious answer, for once. This look developed from rebelling teenage boys wanting to look "bad", and they looked to prison inmates for their inspiration. In jails and prisons, they take away your belt (so you don't use it for a weapon or to hang yourself), and the prisoners often find their pants falling-down and exposing their underwear.

Grandmamu It's the Look I have one for you. We have a councilman who has the habit of pulling his drawers up no matter who is around. But, the thing is he pulls up to his chest.. And non of are able to figure what those underwear look like.

It came from trying to emulate inner city black youth, and rapstars. Why anyone would want to do that defies intelligence, but nonetheless.

I learned the wearing of the low pants was in fact started in the prison system. The pants were worn low to indicate they were available for...... "dating" .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
