How do burglary alarms work?

Burglary alarms use sensors on doors, windows, and anywhere else would-be-robbers can easily gain entry to your home. These alarm sensors are electronically designed to alert home owners of intruders. Burglary alarms sensors are connected to a control unit by a low-voltage or narrowband RF signal.

Burglary alarms also use motion sensors in rooms. Motion sensors are infrared (PIR) and are capable of detecting body heat. These alarms are setoff when motion is detected in the room.

When someone tries to break into your home via a window or door, the alarm is tripped and a signal immediately notifies police of a potential break-in. Not only will emergency responders be notified, the tripped wire sets off a loud alarm siren that radiates through the neighborhood and scares the robbers away.
