There are classes for wine tasting. Call the gourmet markets in your area and sometimes they even offer these classes in colleges. You can also try online courses.
I found this one that is free freewinecourse.com/ and one from Wine Spectator winespectator.com/school Wine tasting is really fun and it helps you appreciate what you're drinking. But don't feel like you need to like specific wines to be sophisticated or a connoisseur. Drink what you like :) Oh and just because a wine is expensive doesn't mean it's good.
You can get great bottles for $15 or under.
You can get in to the wine industry without putting out an enormous amount of money on training. You can join my Team as an Independent Wine Consultant. Check out my Wine-site, and call me if you'd like more info.

This is a very good question. I know there are wine tasting classes out there for those that are really serious about learning how to detect the best wines. But if you are just looking to attend some places where you can taste wine, just for the fun of it to see what different types of wines are out there, then you can attend wineries that have guided tours.
I was at a winery up in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The tour guide took us around the facility, showing the process by which their wines are made. After the tour we all had a chance to taste several of their most popular wines.
He described each wine as to what grapes were used in it, what foods it would go good with and of course how much each bottle of wine was to purchase in their store. You could look online to find wineries in your area or any that you'd be interested in visiting. Call and see if they have a tour or tasting available.
Good luck and enjoy if you get a chance to go.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
