Obviously you are a Gymnast and believe it or not the fear you have isn’t so uncommon in your sport. So often you strive for excellence and when things don’t go according to plan it can work on your mental state. One of the first things you need to do in order to overcome your fear is face it head on.As hard as this maybe, facing that fear, in other words facing the vault is one way of overcoming that fear.
Once you get back on the vault and prove to yourself that you can indeed handle this apparatus that fear will no doubt go away. Sometimes we build things up in our heads to make them more then they actually are. I may not be a Gymnast but I know what that’s like, believe me I have had my fair share of things I have feared that I have had no choice but to face, sometimes it was easy, and sometimes very hard, I won’t pretend it wasn’t.
Some other advice is to start out simple, don’t do anything too difficult till you start to get your confidence back with the apparatus. If the fear is still there, or causing you anxiety it maybe time to seek out a sport psychologist, or another counselor who can help you work through this phobia. Here is an article on this subject that you may find helpful as well.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
