How do I get rid of an icon on my desktop?

Hold the click button on it drag it to the trash icon.

Press ctrl+alt+delete. Then stop the application from running including internet explorer. Then right click the icon then delete.

The file is probably still being downloaded by IE. If you want to interrupt it so you can delete it, close your browser and delete it. If you still can't find what's locking the file, use this: lockhunter.com.

YOU WANT THE SHUT DOWN SCREEN.... when it takes you there, select the last choice,( TASK MANAGER).. then when you press TM, it will open, you can find the process in tm if it is indeed still being downloaded and stop it, or just right click and choose delete or drag to trash, if dragging to trash is not working tell us what it says when it denies the trash..

You desperately need to learn about computers. Ctr/Alt/Delete just takes you to the Task Manager.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
