You have to find their nest and destroy it! Meaning you need some powerful ant spray, preferrably a lot of it. Since they are destryoing one of your windows they are probably nesting near it.

Maybe in the wood around it, on the ground under it or in the attic above it. You may need a thin / narrow nozzle on your spray if they happen to be right in the wood around the window, you have to hit them directly with the spray, they are too big and hearty to die just from walking thru any pesticide. I have never known carpenter ant bait to work consistently.

You will know when you find the nest, hundreds maybe thousands of them will start scurrying for their lives. You need to hit them with all the spray you have, they do not die easily. Best to have one of those gallon plus spray cans, wear gloves and maybe a mask, especially if you have to crawl up in an attic.

If you do hire someone make sure they find the nest, don't pay anyone to bait for carperter ants. If you want to bait, use Max Force Carpenter Ant Bait, it is the best, but probaly won't work! Finding and destroying the nest or nest is the only sure way to get rid of carpenter ants.

You can get Max Force online. Sources: Worked in pest control, was a carpenter ant specialist .

Get Rid of Carpenter Ants Some people believe you can't get rid of them yourself, but you need to call an exterminator. Others use a product purchased at Home Depot or similar store, which is a small bottle of carpenter ant liquid concentrate killer that you mix with water in a pump sprayer. One such concentrate is made by the Zep pest control Company and the proportion of mix to water is: 1/2 fluid oz to 1 gal.

Water for carpenter ants, crickets, etc. 1 fluid oz to 1 gal. Water for roaches, fleas, spiders Follow the directions on the label. This can be used indoors or outdoors.

It is also noteworthy that mother nature uses insects to compost dead wood and most human dwellings are made of biodegradable materials, such as wood. The carpenter ant does not generally start atacking strong wood, but the already weak parts assisted by water damage (such as leaks in the roof, sinks, water areas of a house, tree stumps outside), so finding the ants will show the homeowner early water damage. Getting Rid of Carpenter Ants First a word of caution. Many pest control professionals consider Carpenter ants the most difficult pest there is to deal with in the industry. With all the training and experience they have, there are some homes that take considerable time and a number of treatments to completely eradicate these destructive insects.

Many homeowners will call in a professional after they have failed to solve the problem themselves. This situation is usually more difficult to deal with because the homeowner randomly sprayed pesticides killing the obvious evidence and scattering the satellite nests. Of course this increases the cost.

If you are not prepared to spend hours in your attic and crawl space wearing a respirator, rubber gloves, coveralls and a hat, then you may be wise to call a professional to do the job properly. You can read the advice from a Canadian Government web site if you are determined to deal with carpenter ants yourself. The process:Find all of the Satellite nests in the home.

(Read about nests on the identification and life cycle page) Try to locate the "mother" nests and the queens. Eliminate conditions that made the home a suitable habitat for the ants. Treat the satellite nests with a suitable pest control method or product.

Don't:Don't spray pesticides on ants outside the nests. Use a vacuum cleaner inside your home. Don't use "ant drops, ant poisons, ant traps".
