You can store one or more files in them and shrink it. As for extracting the contents you can use WinRAR or WinAce. I see you only have three parts, so the odds of recovery are low.

All you have to do is go to download.com, under search, type . Rar converter, it will list 5-9 different decoder/converter, the 1st 3 are easy to use, simply open the program, drag the file and click extract, set the path that you want your files to be extracted into, and complete the job. You should only need to attempt the extraction on *. Rar, and make sure all the parts in the same folder, it will find the rest of the files needed for reconstructing the file on its own. WinRAR that is anyway.
