Cost higher---yes and no Travel agencies do charge service charges for airline tickets but so does the airlines. Since all air commissions have been taken away, travel agencies must charge to cover their staff and overhead. However, when booking with a travel agent, he/she will find you the best price possible for the type of route you request.

Many internet companies may give you the best rate however they route you with 2 or 3 stops which in my opinion doesn't save you any monies and extends your travel time. Also travel agencies like American Express, AAA, and all the biggies will not charge service charges if you book a hotel or car, tour or cruise with them. This is merely a gimmick. I would however reccomend a site called Itasoftware.com. You cant actually buy from the site but it allows you to search a weekend, monthlong or any specified time period and gives you all the prices of all airlines on each day, thus showing you the cheapest days and periods to travel.It is one of those hidden gem sites, a diamond in the rough if you will.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both.... You can get an Amex card and still use it to charge travel services on the discount online sellers; you're not compelled to use American Express Travel. You should be careful, though; many of the online travel sites won't let you change your mind once you've made a reservation. They almost all have steep cancellation fees, and with some you will lost all your money if something comes up and you have to change your plans.

Another thing to consider is that sometimes the online travel engines really don't give you much of a discount. You should price-shop at more than one website before booking anything online, and then make sure you understand the cancellation/change policies. Online bookings can be very convenient, but they're not very helpful if you don't already know where you want to go and what you want to do there.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
