Both of my sons are disabled and I try to magnify their strong points to help them with their confidence. My oldest son is a awesome artist, so I encourage him to draw often and show off his art work when ever I can. My younger son is extremely affectionate, so I tell him how loving and kind he is.
He loves everyone!
Emphasising their strengths is always good, but to me it comes down to one thing: acceptance. If you are accepting of them, accepting of their struggles and their failures as well as their successes, they will be confident in themselves, knowing it is okay to be who they are.
I am a strong believer in using whatever method works. If you can't do somthing one way adapt. If they can not tell time on a analog clock so what get them a digital.
Numonics and ryhmes may help with things as well as having other people explain concepts to them. Everyone sees things differently. I learn best by examples not lectures or speeches.
Iembrassment over grades and frustration still hurts even if your mom says your a great artist. I went from struggling throughout school to having a 4.0 in grad school why because format of lesson as well as individuality are more valued once you start to move out of earlier schooling. You know your boys are smart so help them find ways that will help their confidence in school.
Believe me There are thousands of people out there that have difficulty yet they learn to function its just finding what helps your children. Pointing out their good points helps but stressing them above all else could back fire they know they have difficulty they need help in coping with that not ignoring it.
A better question would be, how to we instill confidence in our children to overcome all the challenges they'll face in their life. People learn differently and if someone can succeed in learning in one particular way, that can increase their overall confidence.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
