How do you add fractions with different denominators?

To add fractions, you have to create common (the same) denominators You do this by multiplying the fractions times a fraction that is equivalent to 1 (such as 3/3). Multiplying by 1 does not change the value of the fraction. This is the Identity Property of Multiplication.
