How Do You Decorate A Mexican Sombrero?

Mexican sombreros are often seen on children who are celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is a celebration in Mexico of the Mexican army's defeat over the French in battle on May 5, 1862. If you are a teacher or a homeschooling mother, you may want to teach your children about this battle and then have them decorate their very own Mexican sombrero.

Check to see if your local craft store sells straw sombreros. If not, you can order them from Amazon (see resources). It has some for sale in bulk, making it perfect for a teacher looking to do this craft with a classroom of students.

Paint a design on your sombrero. The design should go near the top of the hat because you are going to want to hang decorations from the brim of the hat. The children's design should be unique so that the sombrero shows their personality.
