How do you divide a gold mound spirea plant?

It's a woody plant, so you cannot "divide" it. What you can do is this: cut a small slit near a joint of the plant. Take an old nylon stocking and fill it with peat moss.

Tie this around the slit, making sure the peat moss is in direct contact with the slit (inside the slit and around it.). Mist lightly. Keep misting lightly on a daily basis until you see new roots growing through the old nylon ball.

Then, cut it off from the host plant. This takes a bit of time. You might want to do this in the spring time when the plant is still soft from having the sap rising.
