This phone will play mp3's as ringtones ONLY if they are signed by T-Mobile, meaning if you like paying for your ringtones from your phone carrier then it will play them as ringtones. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
