Fill a five-gallon bucket with three gallons of water and one gallon of bleach. If you are doing this project indoors, your bucket should have a tight-fitting lid. Gather your jeans into a tight ball and immerse them in the bucket.

Leave the jeans in the bucket. Start checking for results after 30 minutes. Less expensive jeans with a medium wash will bleach faster than high-quality jeans with a dark wash.

Rinse your jeans in the washing machine after they have reached the level of fade you desire. The bleach and dye in the jeans will come out, so rinse the jeans alone. The end result will have an almost tie-dyed, splotchy, faded effect.
