How do you feel about declawing a cat?

The cats claws are for fighting and for defense. The only time that I would de-claw a cat would be if there was a new baby coming into the house and one was worried about the cat clawing the baby. I would be upset if someone took it upon themselves to do anything to my pets without first consulting me.

I can see why you are upset.

Cruel and unusual punishment, we clip our 3 cats claws with a finger nail clipper, just the tips. If they ever start try to scratch furniture or carpet, we put catnip on a scratching pad (made of card board). They learn to scratch that.

It is not necessary. After having two cats that were declawed, one that came to me declawed and another that I had declawed using laser technology, I now have a third cat that I have chosen not to declaw because I think it is unnecessary and cruel. Yes, the cat can recover from the pain of surgery, but the procedure actually removes the distal section of the digits in their paws which as you can imagine can cause difficulty with normal function.

I provide my current cat with scratching posts and keep her nails trimmed. I think if people do not want to deal with the normal activities and functions of an animal they should not take that animal in as a pet.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
