How Do You Find True North With Your Meade LX90GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope?

Finding true North with your Meade telescope is part of the Auto Align process. You will need to complete the entire process to reach your goal. Follow these steps.

For Automatic Alignment, be sure the Dec. And R.A. locks are tight and that AutoStar is correctly attached to the telescope. Turn on the telescope.

When "Press 0 to align or Mode for Menu" appears on the display, press "0" to start Automatic Alignment "Automatic Alignment" will appear on the display. The telescope will automatically perform several procedures including detecting the level of the telescope's base, finding North and attempting a GPS fix. The telescope will align two stars to orient itself.

This process starts when "Automatic Alignment: Selecting Star and Slewing" appears on the display. When the telescope is ready, "Center Brightest Star: Press Enter" will appear on the display. Using the arrow keys, center on the brightest star in the area and press "Enter."
