How Do You Fix An Unreadable Or Corrupt Hard Drive?

Though the data on your corrupt/unreadable hard drive may be lost, you can still get more use out of your hard drive. Writing zeros to the drive essentially neutralizes the corrupt data and renders the drive blank--allowing you to start over and reinstall your operating system. Step 1 Download a copy of MaxBlast hard drive utility tool (see Resources) to the desktop on a functioning computer. Insert a floppy disk into the computer, and then copy MaxBlast to it. Step 2 Insert the floppy disk into the floppy disk drive of the computer containing the corrupt hard drive.

Step 3 Power on the computer containing the corrupt/unreadable hard drive. After your system's BIOS loads, MaxBlast's installation menu will launch. Choose option "F" to run the program from your floppy disk.
