How do you get a grease stain out of a silk tie?

Removing grease from silk I'd rub a solution of Dawn and water into the grease stain, then hand wash the item. --try covering the stain with talc powder and allowing it to sit for a day or two. The stain should come out.

--Well, I took my silk skirt to the cleaners..they apologised for not managing to get rid of the marks..even with extra spot cleaning. Suggested I should hand wash it as I had nothing to lose. However before I added water I read the tips about talc, and infact I used cornflour!

I just rubbed it carefully into the marked area, placed some white kitchen roll on top, heated up with a hot iron, removed paper towel and brushed off........ FANTASTIC! No marks to be seen. Am going back to the cleaners tomorrow to pass on the tip!...or should I?!

When you get home or to the hotel, lay the silk garment on a flat surface with a towel or paper towel underneath it. Sprinkle the stain liberally with talcum powder. It does not matter if it's perfumed or not, as long as it's talcum powder.

I used cornstarch once when I was in a pinch. Leave this on overnight or for as long as possible. This allows the grease to get absorbed by the powder.

Use a clean face cloth or towel to brush off the powder. I've even used my nail brush. If it is still stained, re-apply.

Sometimes it takes up to 3 applications. Take heart, I saved many a top from my lobster dinner this way. Sources: http://www.ehow.com/how_2967_clean-silk-tie.html .

Baby shampoo Put a drop of baby shampoo in your palm, add water and thin it out, blot onto the tie. Blot with dry towel until area is not all wet, then air dry.

I tried the cornflour tip by one of the other responders and it worked perfectly! Ironing is key. At first I just rubbed a little corn starch on the grease stain and then wiped it off.It absorbed the grease but left a white powder.

Then I put a papertowel over the silk and heated it up with an iron and rubbed it in again and *viola* it was gone! Great tip!

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
