Sandro Botticelli is a well-known Italian Renaissance artist. He was born Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi but used the name Botticelli as a pseudonym. Soon after completing his schooling Botticell was apprenticed to a goldsmith by his father.
However, the young man's love of painting caused his father to change his mind and apprentice Botticelli to a painter instead. The works of Botticelli received significant notice while he was in is early thirties.
