The time step is one of the essential steps in tap dancing. This particular time step is considered a traveling time step because the dancer is going to move either to her left, or to her right, depending on which foot the step was started on, as she executes the ball-change. The ending of the standard traveling time step has been changed from a shuffle step to a flap heel drop, which spices up the combination a bit.
Shuffle on your right foot. A shuffle consists of a front and back brush on the same foot. The ball of your shoe makes contact with the floor; your heel doesn't.
The flap heel drop traveling time step begins with the count of "8 and ..." You shuffle on those counts. Shuf-("8") fle-("and"). Step down on your right foot.
Your right foot is bearing your weight. This is done on the count of "1." So far you have done shuffle ("8 and") step ("1").
Repeat the shuffle on your left foot. Do this on the count of "and 2." Shuf- ("and") fle- ("2").
