Tourniquet clamps, also known as web clamps, are useful when repairing a chair, stool or other legged furniture. The average homeowner may not have a tourniquet clamp handy when the need arises, but it's easy to make your own clamp using common household items. Find a piece of rope that is long enough that it can be wrapped several times around the legs of the chair, table, stool, or whatever item you are trying to repair.

You will also need to find a dowel. One that is about a foot long and can be held easily in your hand should work well. If you do not have a dowel handy, you can use any other sturdy item of about the same size such as a stick, feather duster handle or a paint paddle.

Wrap the rope around the legs. You will want to do this at least twice. But if the rope is long enough for three or four, then that is fine too.
