If you are trying to figure out how much space something is taking up, you want to figure up its volume. You must know the objects width, height, and length of the object. Depending on the object, you will use different formulas to figure out the exact volume.
For example. If you wanted a cube's volume, you would simply need to multiply together the height, width, and length. You can find more information here: math.com/tables/geometry/volumes.htm.
