How Do You Recycle A Milk Jug Into A Free Bird Seed Scoop?

You've seen them in the catalogs and home centers for $10 or more but you can easily make a bird seed scoop for free. It'll take you about 5 minutes to recycle a plastic beverage jug (i.e. , milk bottle) into a bird seed scoop.

What's more, it even fills the feeder! (No, you still have to schlep the seed out there yourself!) The bottle's spout acts as a funnel, directing the seed into the bird feeder, and not all over the ground below. (Let the birds and squirrels do that!) Thoroughly wash out the plastic jug and shake out any excess moisture.

DO NOT THROW OUT THE CAP! Using the waterproof marker, draw a line all the way around the jug, about 2 inches up from the bottom of the container. Some bottles actually have a little ridge, there, to guide you.

With a utility knife, or sharp scissors, cut along the line you've drawn. I find it's helpful to start the cut with the knife, and then continue with the scissors. Discard the bottom of the container in the recycling bin.
