Typically, the front surface of the board retains some of the marker ink, so it becomes gray and difficult to read after years of use.

Fortunately, there are easy ways you can repair a dry erase board to make it look new again. Apply a cleaner specifically designed for dry erase boards. This may remove some of the ink that has penetrated the board's surface.

If ink has remained on the board for several days or longer, though, using this type of cleaner may not be sufficient to remove the ink. Scrub the surface of the dry erase board with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. Rubbing alcohol can remove both washable and permanent inks from many surfaces, including fabric, leather and dry erase boards.
