Starter doesn't need to be replaced unless it went bad. Take the vehicle to Autozone, Oreilly, or any auto part store that offers free battery/starter/alternator testing service, and they can tell you if starter is going bad. I assume you are having problem starting the car.
If that's the case, check battery first, then starter and alternator. I have a 2001 Prizm and starter died on me at 40000 miles, which seems awfully early. Replaced with a remanufacture one from Autozone and has worked since, car is at 100k miles now.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
