How do you set the timing on 1996 kia sportage?

Mechanically set the timing as follows, 2 cams must be set at 12:00 the crank set at TDC at marks at about 11:00 to 12:00 electronically the base timing is computer controlled and cannot be adjusted, BUT say if idle speed is to high then make sure a/c is off,make sure there are no large loads on engine where as the computer is compensating for that. Check for air intake leaks,check for rich condition that the computer is trying to compensate for your base idle speed on sporatge should be between 770-870. So if idle speed is ok then check your camshaft position sensor,crankshaft position sensor,and of course wiring to ECM.

Finally your degrees of BTDC @ idle should be 0-12.

Sportage Timing The one on intake side at 12 oclock pass. Side. The E on exhaust side at 12 oclock drivers side P!

S! When checking the timing on a kia sportage you should know that the sheer pin on the crankshaft pulley tends to go allowing the pulley to move so it 'looks' like its in time meaning the marks all line up and you can't tell without pulling off the lower(crankshaft) pulley, it is always a good idea to locate #1 spark plug take it out and drop a longgg screwdriver as you manually turn the timing belt whilst looking for the marks as that cylinder should be up as far as it can go with all the marks lined up for it to be in time if it starts going back down or doesn't quite get as far up as it should go with the marks lined up.. then its not in time and should definatley take off the crankshaft pulley to take a look at that sheer pin and the damamge it did.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
