How Do You Sew A Flying Geese Quilt Pattern?

The flying geese quilt pattern looks complicated, but you can learn to master it. This block is made with three triangles to create one flying goose and two triangles of sky. You sew two or three together to create a more traditional flying geese block.

Cut a 6 1/4 by 6 1/4-inch square out of the fabric that you are using for the geese part of the quilt. Cut the square diagonally twice. This will give you 4 triangles.

Cut a 3 3/4 inch by 3 3/4 inch square out of the fabric that you are using for the sky portion of the block. Cut the sky square in half on the diagonal. This will give you two triangles.

Take one of the triangles for the geese and two of the triangles for the sky for each block. Pin the bottoms of the sky triangles to the sides of the geese triangle. All together, they will form a rectangle.

Stitch together the sides. Iron each seam flat. Sew together several blocks to make a large flying geese block and sew together to create the complete quilt top.
